Two Extra Things

You get an extra entry. Aren't you lucky.

Something I'd forgotten to mention about the new house is we have an ice maker. An actual, bonafide ice maker.

We've never had one.

We've relied on ice cube trays, and we have four in the freezer right now. My husband and my son do not understand my desire to have ice cubes readily available. There is a bowl in the freezer, where daily I break 2 of the 4 trays open, and dump them in. Then, I refill the trays. It takes the better part of an entire day for this freezer to create new ice cubes.

But my housemates will:

  • Use all of the ice in the bowl and not crack the trays open in the morning to refill said bowl, and refill said ice cube trays while they're at it, so that later in the day, there are more fucking ice cubes
  • Use 6 or 8 or whatever ice cubes out of the tray when the bowl is empty, and then put the tray back in the freezer with 6 or 8 empty compartments
  • Put more water into the tray where they took out 6 or 8 cubes so when I go to grab a tray to break it open, I spill water all over the fucking kitchen
They are monsters. And they do not understand why I get furious about this.

But now, I will not have to worry. I will not have to be concerned with having ice crystals at the bottom of the bowl and no readily available ice.

I opened our freezer (freezer is at the bottom of the refrigerator, which I fucking LOVE) and lo and behold, a damn hell ass entire collection of ice cubes waiting for me to shove into a glass.

This brings me incredible joy.

I mentioned Doug's aunt in the last entry. It has been a while since we've talked to her.

He got an email and phone call from the storage unit place where we'd set up an account to pay for her to store things back a month or so ago. She told Doug recently that she changed the payment info to her name and it was all set. But. They told Doug that no - the payment method failed/was rejected and asked him to please call to help make that right. Thank you very much.

So. He has been a little focused on, I don't know, his own life? So he forgot to call. She texted him tonight to say they reached out to her too, and wanted the payment method updated/fixed but she didn't know what they were talking about (of course she didn't) so her message was "It's in your name right? You have to fix it."

Oh fuck no. No we do not. But .... we will.

So, after about an hour of debating if he should call her or not, she called him. They got caught up and he's going to call in the morning. I have to remember to remind him to do that. She said her landlord does NOT like how messy the house is (lol of course!) and she said there is a skunk that keeps coming around. She left a package of cookies on the back step (like you do!) and it came and tried to open the plastic container (of course it did!).

She also had a lamp that caused some trouble. Somehow, someone spilled some soda, and the lamp's power cord was frayed and when it got wet - it started to spark and smoke and it got very scary. So she called her landlord (duh, don't do that, it isn't HIS responsibility) to talk about smoke detectors. By law in Virginia, the house has what it needs but she thinks it needs more. He came over (and that's when he started fussing at her about how messy the place is) so they put in more smoke detectors. But she has not cleaned up anything.

So there's more news for you that does not involve us and moving trucks.

More later, I am sure.
