dishwasher

Our dishwasher is great, but it is very loud.

And the design of our house has it so our livingroom and kitchen are butt up against each other, so anyone working in the kitchen disturbs someone watching TV most of the time. Luckily, there is a door between the living room and kitchen, but there's also an opening with no door on it between the dining area and the kitchen, so all the noise just floats around the corner naturally.

I try to get the kitchen all set after dinner. I hate going to bed with a mess in the kitchen, so I load up the dishwasher, clean the counters, wipe things down, etc. Then run it when we go to bed. We can close that door between the kitchen and livingroom, and still hear the dishwasher going sometimes. But mostly, we sleep fine.

Having a fan on a lot this summer drowned it out so we could sleep. But right now it is just a noisy necessity. I think that when our installer put it in, he didn't wrap it with that blanketty insulation dealie. He just put it in there.

As of late, any time someone runs the microwave while the dishwasher is running, it trips a breaker. This is new. We're not sure if the new coffeemaker adds to the issue (it's a more powerful coffeemaker, I guess). So we've taken to making sure the dishwasher isn't running.

I like running it at night because honestly, I am able to just sleep and be good with it and it uses less power, allegedly, so that's good. And we have clean dishes in the morning.

Yesterday I forgot to start it before bed, and woke up realizing my mistake, so I started it. Geoff microwaved some coffee (the coffee was brewing so this was left from the day before) and tripped the breaker.

Twice.

So now I kind of have to make sure the dishwasher runs or it's an issue for the morning. Just, not when someone is watching TV. Not when someone wants to microwave a burrito or heat up coffee. Not when someone's napping on the couch either.

This is very limiting on time that it can run if I make the oversight of hitting start before bed.

A few nights ago, I asked Doug to start the dishwasher and close the kitchen door. He pressed start, but, pressing start once just notifies the dishwasher you want something done. You have to hit it a second time to make it go. Super smart. Like, the start button is the "power" button as well. Start+Start=Go

So he hit it once, thinking it would go, walked away, came to bed, and nothing happened.

It's a drag, I tell ya, waking up in the morning and you want a fresh fork for your eggs, or, you want a teaspoon for that wee yogurt you gotta eat by 10am.

But. I'll take it. It's so much better than not having one. Especially with our tiny countertop ... there's nowhere really to dry a rack of dishes. It'd be a pain.

Just started the dishwasher, and off to bed. No picture. Still to blah.
